About the event

We are pleased to invite researchers, faculty members, students, and science practitioners to take part in the Wiki Science Competition (WSC) in Kazakhstan, an international initiative that encourages participants to show science as it happens - in laboratories, in the field, through experiments, observations, and everyday research work.

You don't need a professional camera or a complex setup to share your research with the world. A single photograph, image set, or short video can tell a powerful story about your work - and help make science more visible, accessible, and inspiring. It is a unique opportunity to present your work on an international stage via Wikimedia platform.

Additionally, by participating you contribute to the visibility of research conducted in Kazakhstan on a global platform, making scientific knowledge more accessible to a wider audience and supporting the popularization of science.

Submissions are open until 30 January 2026

The WSC is held at two levels: national and international. The best works in each category will advance to the international final and will be evaluated by the international jury to choose the overall winners.

 7 Categories — 7 Cash Prizes:

• People in Science;

• Microscopy Images;

• Non-Photographic Media;

• Image Sets;

• Wildlife and Nature;

• Astronomy;

• General Category.

 Prizes and Opportunities:

— The winner in each category will receive a prize of 200 000 KZT.

— The best works in each category will advance to the international competition.

— The national winner’s photo will be featured at the NU Research Newsletter.

— Selected images and videos will be exhibited at the ÓNERGY CREATIVE ART HUB

The national stage of the competition in Kazakhstan is coordinated by Nazarbayev University Research Administration (NURA) in association with ÓNERGY Creative Art Hub and DC Lab, with sponsorship from the NU Impact Foundation.

We would be delighted to see your research and scientific work represented in this international competition.
