About the event
The Department of History, Philosophy and Religious studies invites students and faculty to an online webinar featuring Marianne Kamp, Professor of Central Eurasian Studies at Indiana University.
The talk explores the collectivization of cotton agriculture in 1930s Uzbekistan through oral history accounts collected in the early 2000s. Drawing on personal narratives - many from individuals who experienced orphanhood- the speaker highlights how families and communities supported orphaned children and how early Soviet collectivization reshaped childhood labor and social structures on collective farms.
The session offers a unique historical perspective on the lived experiences of children during major agrarian and social transformation in Central Asia.
Open to the NU community.
