About the event

The Department of Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) invites the NU community to the next talk in its Lecture Series, “Past Repression, Present Solidarity: Mnemonic Opportunities in Eastern Europe.”

Ph.D. candidate Isabelle DeSisto from Princeton University will discuss how memories of Soviet repression continue to shape political behavior during contemporary crises. Drawing on extensive field research in Estonia and Moldova, her talk explores how historical legacies of repression influence solidarity and political mobilization in response to Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Isabelle DeSisto specializes in comparative politics with a focus on Eastern Europe, examining the long-term political consequences of violence and repression in the post-Soviet space.

All members of the NU community are welcome, and PSIR students are especially encouraged to attend.
