About the Speaker

Prof. Victor Lapuente is a Professor in Political Science and Head of the Quality of Government Institute at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Oxford. His research focuses on comparative public administration, particularly the causes and consequences of adopting Weberian bureaucracies.

Prof. Lapuente has published in leading academic journals, including the European Journal of Political Research, Journal of Public Administration Research & Theory, Governance, Party Politics, Political Research Quarterly, and Local Government Studies. He is also the co-author, with Carl Dahlström, of Organizing Leviathan (Cambridge University Press, 2017). His work combines both quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze political institutions and public governance. Additionally, he is a weekly columnist for El País, one of Spain’s major newspapers.


About the Talk

This seminar will explore how the quality of government institutions influences public health outcomes. Prof. Lapuente will present insights from his research on governance effectiveness, bureaucratic structures, and policy implementation, shedding light on the mechanisms that link good governance to better health indicators. The discussion will cover comparative examples from various political systems, highlighting best practices and challenges in public administration.
