About the event

The School of Mining and Geosciences will welcome Grade 1 students from Kazakhstan International School, Astana, for an educational field trip dedicated to their current classroom topic – Antarctica.

The session will be led by Dr. George Mathews (SMG), who will deliver a short, age-appropriate talk on the paleo-reconstruction of the Pangea supercontinent and the position of Antarctica within it. Following the presentation, Dr. Mathews will accompany the students to the Mineralogy Lab (Room 6.327), where they will explore rock and mineral collections and learn how geologists use such samples to understand Earth’s history.

This visit aims to spark early interest in Earth sciences, introduce schoolchildren to the university environment, and strengthen collaboration between Nazarbayev University and local schools through interactive, hands-on learning.
