About the event
Nazarbayev University invites the NU community to a lecture by Aybike Tezel (HPRS, PhD Indiana University) on the formation of early nomadic empires in Eurasia.
The talk explores the Rou-ran Qaghanate (330–555) and its political organization, governance, and diplomatic practices across the Eurasian steppe. Drawing on Chinese historical records and archaeological evidence from the Mongolian Plateau and northern China, the lecture examines how the Rou-ran structured authority across steppe and agricultural regions and contributed to long-standing traditions of steppe statecraft that influenced later Eurasian polities.
Open to the NU community.
