About the event

As a part of the "Culture and Society" lecture series, the Sociology and Anthropology Department is pleased to invite you to a guest lecture by Alena Nikiticheva, a PhD student at Linnaeus University, Sweden

Topic: "Western, Muslim – European Women's Journeys to Islam"

About the Lecture:

Alena Nikiticheva presents an overview of key research from Sweden, the Netherlands, and across Europe on female conversion to Islam, inviting discussion on broader geographical applications. This lecture examines how women converts understand Islamic values, negotiate questions of gender and rights, and confront stereotypes about Muslim women. Drawing on work by leading scholars in the field, we will explore what European experiences reveal and explore how Kazakhstani and Central Asian cases offer distinct insights that enrich our understanding of conversion processes globally.

Hope to see you there!
