About the event

Nazarbayev University will host the Central Eurasian Studies Society (CESS) Regional Conference on June 16–19, 2026, bringing together scholars and practitioners working across the humanities and social sciences.

This year’s theme, “(Re)thinking Central Eurasia: Spaces, Societies, and Power,” invites submissions that explore the region from interdisciplinary perspectives. The conference covers a broad geographic scope, including Central Asia, the Caucasus, Iran, Afghanistan, Xinjiang, Tibet, Mongolia, Siberia, Inner Asia, the Black Sea region, the Volga region, and East and Central Europe.

Graduate students, faculty members, and researchers are encouraged to submit proposals for individual papers or panels. There is also an opportunity to propose workshops for PhD students and early career researchers. Selected workshop leaders will receive an honorarium.

Submission deadline: the deadline has been extended to 22 March, 2026
