About the event

Dear NU Community,

In order to promote a safe educational environment and support the mental well-being of our students at Nazarbayev University, the Health and Well-being Department invites all faculty and staff members to complete the Red Folder training.

Red Folder is a prompt response guidance that helps the faculty and staff at the universities to recognize signs of a student’s psychological or emotional crisis and respond appropriately to ensure timely and professional support.

This training was first introduced in the universities in the United States as a highly visible resource (a red folder) containing the contact details of support services and guidance for responding to mental health crises in the students. The red color was intentionally chosen to symbolize urgency, importance, and prompt access to critical information. Today, Red Folder training is recognized and implemented globally in many leading universities, including the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), University of Southern California (USC), University of Arizona, University of Texas at Austin, and Northwestern University.

Red Folder training is an important measure toward building a safe, supportive, and responsible university environment. It is part of NU’s systematic approach to students mental health care, equipping the ones with the knowledge and confidence to act effectively in crisis situations. This training is conducted on a regular basis and contains the following key components:

  • Identifying emotional and behavioral signs of crisis among the students;

  • Assessing the situation and determining appropriate response measures;

  • Key contacts and procedures for providing support at the University.

To participate in the Red Folder training in May and June 2025, we kindly ask the faculty and staff members to complete the registration form: May 28 at 15:00, May 30 at 11:00 or June 3 at 15:00. The training details will be sent to the email upon the registration is complete and reviewed.
